Abstract | In the present scenario, the process of learning English is important and challenging components for engineering students. Research in India has focused on vocabulary learning strategies. Research has not much investigated how effectively the engineering students learn vocabulary. This affects overall language proficiency enhancement of the learner. Most of the L2 learners face vocabulary deficiency as a major problem in mastering the English language. Vocabulary teaching and learning is not given much importance in rural and some urban areas. Research in vocabulary is absolutely needed for its practical value. The study investigates the attitudes of the engineering students about learning of vocabulary who have learnt for two semesters through technology. The study examines whether the software installed in language lab, the teaching strategies and activities help the students to develop vocabulary skills. This study was done using qualitative and quantitative method, the sample size comprising of 50 students of computer science engineering at a University. A questionnaire was prepared and distributed to the students with twenty questions. The data was analyzed with representing pie charts using information-elicitation techniques. The students showed a positive attitude towards vocabulary learning through technology being incorporated in the English language lab. |
