Abstract | The motive of British to establish political control in India was mainly aimed at exploitation of Indian economic through establishing a colonial market in India for British goods. The British rulers created new economic structure that was oriented colonial interests. Both nature and structure of Indian economy underwent profound changes and it served the British economic interests at the cost of India. The British colonialism changed the nature and structure of the economy of India and gave a new shape to it. In this paper an over view of the way the British restructured the economic system of India to suit their objective of maximum exploitation is attempted. Commercialization of agriculture, growth of money lending class, excessive drain of wealth and demolition of handicrafts and cottage industries from the country is some of the major impact on Indian economy. |
