The synthesis of different type of coumarin derivatives 1(a-e) have been performed from different type of phenol derivatives. The compound 4-methyl-1H-isochromen-1-one 1(a-e) were then converted to their respective compound 2(a-e) 2-amino-4-methylisoquinolin-1(2H)-one derivatives by treated with hydrazine hydrate. The compound 2(a-e) on heated with different aryldehyde to gave corresponding compound 3(a-e) 2-((4-subsituted cyclohexa-2,5-dienyl)methyleneamino)-5-hydroxy-4-methylisoquinoline-1(2H)-one derivatives. Compound 3(a-e) react with triethyl amine and chloro acetyl chloride gave 2-(2-(4-subsitutedcyclohexa-2,5-dienyl)-3-chloro-4-oxoazetidine-1-yl)-5-hydroxy-4-methylisoquinoline-1(2H)-one derivatives 4(a-e). The antimicrobial activity of these compounds has also been evaluated.
