Abstract | Health seeking behaviour is an orientation or preferences, to accept a particular system of medicine or institution of treatment by a sick person for the fulfilment of his/her health related needs. Health seeking behaviour is influenced by several socio cultural variables and it may vary according to age, gender, education, income, region, social status and even with availability of health care facilities. Surveillance is continuous observation. Michel Foucault interpret surveillance as a form of power relation. Public health surveillance is, according to the World Health Organization, "the continuous, systematic collection, analysis and interpretation of health-related data needed for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of public health practice. This paper tries to analyse how surveillance manipulate health seeking behaviour of Paniya community- most marginalized tribal community of Kerala. Interview method is used There is a significant relation between health seeking behaviour and field level surveillance. |
