Abstract | Throughout the terrestrial existence of man, his abode occupies a paramount place in his life. It is the coveted dream of the indigent and the opulent alike. The house is not only a dwelling place but also a prospective investment. With the passage of time the market value of the house increases most people rely on housing loan since it is a long term borrowing repayable at a affordable interest rate .Kerala is far ahead of other states in respect of social indicators like health, literacy, infant mortality and standard of living. In proportion of the increase in income and living standard, the number of the houses in Kerala has made a quantum leap but the construction of a house is costly and it is not within the reach of the common man. Hence people are forced to rely on financial institutions for the purpose of constructing houses. In this context, the present study is an attempt to compare and analyze the home loan performance and to evaluate the share of housing loans in total bank credit of Punjab National Bank (PNB), one of the leading public sector bank and Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC), one of major private bank in Kerala,India. |
