Abstract | In 2014, the authors conducted a population-based, cross-sectional survey to determine the risk factors of osteoporosis with respect to age of premenopausal women at Bhilai(CG) by using various methods viz, estimation of Bone Mineral Density (BMD) by “T” score values as per WHO standards using Achilles Express Quantitative Ultrasound at the heel bone(calcaneus),Osteoporosis Specific Risk score sheet to assess risk factors of osteoporosis which are divided into modifiable risk factors, non modifiable risk factors and the risk factors which the premenopausal women may be able to control, assessment of Body Mass Index (BMI), assessment of sun exposure by calculating sun exposure index and 24 hours dietary recall before and after dietary counseling. A total of 200 adult women aged between 31 to 45 years living in Bhilai township of CG state were randomly selected to participate in the study. The results reveal that pretest and post test value for BMD and BMI is statistically significant at p<0.001 with respect to age. The comparison of different age groups of premenopausal women with pretest scores of risk factors of osteoporosis among premenopausal women. The data reveals that BMD, non modifiable risk factors and BMI decreases with age.The F ratio of 39.9 is highly significant at P<0.001 for BMD, F ratio of 4.09 at p< 0.018 is highly significant for non modifiable risk factors and F ratio of 8.21 is highly significant at p< 0.0004 for BMI using one way ANOVA.Thus it clearly indicates that age of the premenopausal women plays a role in influencing the risk factors of osteoporosis. |
