Abstract

A study by Ramiro Valdez at a North Eastern School of Social Welfare found that, on a standardized scale where 100 equalled the amount of stress experienced by someone whose spouse had just died, doctoral students in their first year scored an average of 313 points. Undoubtedly, doctoral research is a very intensive and exciting pursuit with physical and mental ramifications. A researcher has to possess common sense to an uncommon degree and understand the significance of the student-advisor relationship. This is both a personal and professional relationship that rivals parenthood and marriage in its complexity, variety and leaves an indelible mark on researcher. Identifying a suitable topic which the researcher is passionate to pursue is another crucial step that needs to be worked on to produce impactful results. Research objectives should be SMART (special, manageable, achievable, reliable and timely) and if the results produced during the course of research are beneficial to mankind, would give immense satisfaction to the researcher. To reach the goal, the researcher has to remain motivated, be open minded, enthusiastic, efficient, and stay focused. This write up is a primer for all the research enthusiasts who want to shine in themselves and not outshine others.
