Abstract | Coumarin, cytosine thymine, uracil and their derivatives are of great biological importanceThe properties of coumarin and its derivatives are determined by their hydrogen and -bonding systems. The general similarity of the size and shape of the coumarin ring to that of pyran and benzene is consistent with its highly aromatic chemical characteristics. Coumarin accepts two proton under extremely acidic conditions and it is a much weaker base than pyridine and imidazole. This is because the addition of proton does not increase the resonance energy. |
