Abstract | Automatic recognition of handwritten Hindi numerals is a complicated task in pattern recognition. Handwriting recognition is the ability of a computer to receive and interpret intelligible handwritten input from sources such as paper documents, photographs, touch-screens and other devices. The image of the written text may be sensed "off line" from a piece of paper by optical scanning (optical character recognition) or intelligent word recognition. The objective of this article is to determine the recognition of Hindi Numeric characters using basic concepts of Digital Image Processing. In basic, there are ten numeric characters which are used in writing of numerals in many languages. In case of Hindi Numeric Characters, there are many different shapes or patterns, which make OCR for Hindi Numeric Characters more difficult to develop. Here various applications like Hindi Numerals Reading, Bill Processing System, Postal Sorting, Bank Cheque Processing, offline numeric document recognition generated by the expanding technological society etc. In this article, I described an algorithm for recognizing the Hindi numeric characters by using the template matching methodology. I used MATLAB for implementing and executing the steps of the algorithm for recognizing Hindi Numeric Characters. |
