| Abstract | Cell line is a cell culture developed from a single cell which consists of a uniform genetic makeup. Today it has become an important alternative to animal studies in various research fields of invitro studies, disease treatment, vaccine production. Selection of cell line is important which is based on the requirement of the study and it gives an advantage of consistency and reproducibility. This review has compiled the basic concepts relating to cell lines i.e. their types, significance of using them, evolution method for isolation of cells, criteria for selection of the specific cell line, its storage and authentication. It has also elaborated various applications of cell lines in research field. |
