Abstract

Bhakti movement refers to the silent revolution brought about by a galaxy of distinguished socio-religious reformers of the Indian subcontinent. It was the most characteristic feature of religious development during the medieval period and an important landmark in Indian cultural history. The revivalist movement emphasized the doctrine of single-minded intense devotion to God coupled with a defiant streak of condemnation of caste distinction and formalism of the orthodox cult. The saints of Bhakti movement attempted to restrain religious fanaticism in society by encouraging tolerance and arousing awakening about the futility of ritualism among the people. Sindhi Bhakti poets played a cardinal role in constituting the foundation for societal reconfiguration on more equitable lines. They left behind a considerable body of Bhakti literature that helped to harmonize the conflicting interests of the people in society. Sindhis are the inheritors of Indus valley civilization, one of the oldest in world. However, the fact that it readily assimilates with local cultures makes the language quite vulnerable. Moreover, the impact of gruesome partition left Sindhi Bhakti literature in a precarious condition. With the dispersal of Sindhi Diaspora far and wide, the younger generation has only a vague notion about its profound literature. Youth has a crucial role in perpetuating the success of Sindhi community; there is no room for any laxity if the community wants to ensure that they don’t splinter out from the pack as the forces of globalization forge ahead. The objective of the present study is to focus on the issues and challenges concerning the promotion of Sindhi Bhakti literature amongst youngsters. It also attempts to find the missing vinculum between the two and suggest new paths to tread for addressing the gaps.
