Abstract

The present study gives attention to the partial replacement of fine aggregates. Stone dust was used as a replacement material. Stone dust can be obtained through the crushing industry because crushing industries are available sufficiently. Fine aggregate being the essential part of the concrete plays the important role in strength development of concrete. Now a day’s sufficient amount of stone dust is available in crushing plants which can be utilized as partial replacement of fine aggregate without compromising the strength of cement concrete. Present investigation is an attempt to determine the suitability to replace the fine aggregate with stone dust. Stone dust was introduced as a partial replacement of fine aggregate in range of 30-70% by weight. In the present investigation M25 design mix of concrete proportion 1:1.65:3 at 0.46 water cement ratio was used. For each replacement level three sets of concrete cubes were cast to determine compressive strength of concrete at 7 and 28 days moist curing. It was observed that at 40% replacement level, compressive strength of stone dust based cement concrete was more than the referral concrete, however at 50% replacement strength of concrete made using stone dust is comparable to the referral M25 grade conventional concrete.
