Abstract

Multicomponent crystal consists of solvate, hydrate, salt and cocrystals. Among these multicomponent crystals, cocrystals recently become most popular for enhancing the Physicochemical Properties of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient. Apart from the enhancing the Physicochemical Properties of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient, cocrystal has been shown fewer or no drawbacks than solvate, hydrate and salt. For this reason researcher from pharmaceutical industry and academic has great interest for designing of pharmaceutical cocrystal. Pharmaceutical cocrystal consists of an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) and co-crystal former. This article focus on API solid form classification based on structure and composition, Comparison of cocrystal with other multicomponent crystals especially with solvate and salt, Crystal engineering and supramolecular chemistry in context of cocrystal formation, Method of cocrystal formation, and finally the Characterisation of cocrystal. Results of study clearly indicates that the long exposure and high dose is extremely toxic and effects the cholinergic system. Based on these findings this compound may be further explored for having other abnormalities and the usage should also be limited as is being increasingly used in various products.
