Abstract

The installation of democratic governance in Nigeria in 1999 opened a new chapter for the formulation of policy for development to meet the socioeconomic challenges facing Nigeria. Since 1999 successive civilian governments have come up with various development policies. This paper examines the impact of President Goodluck Transformation Agenda that has projected Nigeria to be the largest economy in Africa. The study used descriptive analysis and relied primarily on secondary sources of data collection. After a holistic appraisal of the Transformation Agenda, it found that the Transformation Agenda has impacted positively in some sectors. However, there are some shortcomings in the areas of poverty reduction; unemployment; security and infra-structural development. Furthermore, the study found the high cost of governance, corruption, policy discontinuity and insecurity as inimical to the realization of the objectives of the policy. In addition, the study recommends good governance alongside with the abundant human and natural resources that are available in Nigeria as panacea to the realization of the set objectives of the transformation agenda.
